Twilight Of Evergreen

Some notes, thoughts & reminiscences

Martin:

Rise! For me, TOE is not quite as quirky as Circus. It's not so dynamically unusual. Not quite so weird. Admittedly, Circus is a hard act to follow. However, TOE doesn't have the same flow between all the various parts. Also, there are too many words on some of the vocal passages, less would have definitely been more. On the other hand, some of the phrases work well, eg. "Swift, decisive! Instinctive, incisive!". I also like the Pretty Vacant style riff playing under the "Emotion, a blazing pool…" section. The nice 'n' fast finger work from Mr Smart towards the end is worth a mention too. I notice the Noo Yawka is still hanging around though: "Pour may a caw-fee, sizzle tits".

Ollie:

This was the first song we wrote as Sevenchurch. I remember going to watch Dave S. working on the music for this with another guy at his house. I loved what they were doing. The other guy bailed out very soon afterwards. My last band had just collapsed so I suggested that we should start playing together again.

The lyrics to Twilight Of Evergreen are about a vampire (Lestat). Like a number of the lyrics I wrote back then, they were inspired by Anne Rice's stories. I actually went to a Anne Rice book signing in London and gave her a copy of the Nefarious demo tape. I don't know if she ever listened to it or if she liked it.

This Twilight came long before those other Twilight vampire stories!
