Surreal Wheel / Old Truths, Ancient Magick

Some notes, thoughts & reminiscences

Dave S:

I remember this being based around a song from the first (thrash) incarnation of Sevenchurch. Slowed down and lengthened with new material.

Martin:

I'm struck by how similar the early vocal patterns are to those on "Perceptions" -- perhaps we are fortunate that the vocals are sitting in the back of the mix, after all. But good listener, hang in there, there's a very decent guitar effect at 5:41, progressing into a good lead break at 6:22. Regarding vocal patterns and repeat phrases, "Your field of regret" at 6:31, is an example of a short, sharp, phrase that could have been capitalised upon. On the positive side, Ollie's lyrics are nicely ambiguous.

Ollie:

This song was originally called Old Truths, Ancient Magick and lyrically was written about a rather scary visit to some local woods on Walpurgisnacht.

I have very little superstition these days but I can't account for the things that happened that night. Very weird.

I changed the title and re-jigged the lyrics after a request from Martin who felt that they needed to be a bit more ambiguous and open to interpretation.
