Some notes, thoughts & reminiscences

Martin:

This one opens with my kinda pop song style note sequence. Things progress quickly to a very atmospheric spoken section -- anyone for a Vincent Price? Once the song gets into its stride, I'm still not detecting a great variety of syllable counts or independent, of the guitar, vocal patterns -- I'm needing to hear "On Mother Kelly's Doorstep" somewhere in the mix. Although, I do like the simple phrasing of: "Is there no other way. Is there a better way." at 6:52. The best part of the song for me is another acoustic section at 7:19. How Much Is That Doggie In The Window?.

Ollie:

In many ways I think of this as our best song. It has some fantastic musical ideas and it is also perhaps the lyrics that I am most proud of.

I won't say exactly who/what this is about as it is deliberately kept ambiguous and instead the lyrics concentrate on what I imagined the subject might be feeling and thinking. Lyrically it's a song that people can relate to their own experiences and knowing exactly what it is about may spoil there own interpretation/connection to it. It's very dark in emotion and that perhaps deliberately contrasts with the subject itself. There's a few clues in the lyrics and if you want another big clue I'll say there is a Todd MacFarlane connection. That gives anyone who wants to find out more enough information, while keeping it obscure for anyone who relates to it with their own interpretation.
